Our History
The idea was born in 2009, when the late Mr. John Richard Robinson and Sr. Freda Nyanga Robinson felt a calling to give girls from slums and villages access to quality education. In 2010, Dr. Ken Gerdes — an American physician on a medical missionary visit — heard of the vision and pledged his support. Meetings began in November 2010, construction started in December 2010, and the school officially opened in February 2011.
The school started with a handful of students and a faithful team. By the end of the first term there were over 20 students. Dr. Ken Gerdes returned in June 2011 with further sponsorship for infrastructure — classrooms, a swimming pool, a science laboratory and more. The school has since grown to over 200 students.
Originally a girls’ boarding school, Dr. Ken Gerdes Mixed Senior School now proudly welcomes both young men and women — continuing to fulfil Dr. Gerdes’ founding vision: “to provide an affordable Christian boarding school with quality education and the goal of winning students for Christ.”

Our desire was to provide an affordable Christian boarding school with quality education and the goal of winning students for Christ.
In 2010, while visiting Sister Freda and Richard Robinson on a medical missionary trip, Dr. Ken Gerdes first mentioned the possibility of starting a school. Moved by the need for quality, affordable education rooted in Christian values, he committed his support to turning that vision into reality.
The school opened in January 2011 with a small group of students and a big dream. Dr. Gerdes believed deeply in the power of Christian education — equipping young people not just with academic knowledge but with godly character and a firm spiritual foundation to navigate life’s challenges.
His enduring legacy is seen in every student who walks through these gates: young men and women shaped by integrity, ambition and faith — aiming high, like the eagle that graces our school crest.
